I'm back from my trip! Plus: some links for you! [The Bulletin - 19th May, 2024]

The Bulletin
for 19th May, 2024

Hey:

Sorry for the Bulletin being a day late. I've been traveling and the time got away from me. I didn't have time to really put anything together until now. We'll be back to the regular schedule on Saturday at 8PM Eastern/5PM Pacific/Sunday at 1AM BST (UK time).

It was a nice trip, though! Got to visit my friend Valoria for the first time, then swing up to spend my usual week with Christian and his family. Today, I actually went with his mother and little sister to a little fair in the city, which was nice! I don't usually get to wander around vendor booths when I do events with my mum, so it was lovely talking with folks.

But yeah, I had such a good time! I genuinely feel so relaxed, even though there's some anxiety with all the upcoming events and some other outside stressors going on in my personal life. But that's neither here nor there.

Without further ado... your Bulletin.

Upcoming Events

I will be at Bennington, Vermont's 37th Annual Mayfest NEXT WEEKEND with my mom on 25th May, 2024, from 10am-5pm in (naturally) Downtown Bennington, Vermont. My mom will have her jewelry and crafts collection with her, with a slightly updated display, so if you're in the area: please come on down! Again: 25th May, 2024, 10am-5pm, Downtown Bennington, VT. More details here.

On 1st June, my mom will also be doing the Battonkill Valley Pride Celebration at Lakota Farms in Cambridge, NY -- which I'll also be at! This one's running from 12:30pm-4:30pm, so come on down if you're in the area! Let's have a great kick off to Pride Month! (For those who don't know, I'm LGBTQ+. I've already switched to Pride themed wallpapers and a matching Apple Watch face! I'm very excited!)

Once we get into June, there's an event every weekend until July, pretty much. One's pending, so I'm not going to list those here until we get some solid confirmation! If you'd like to follow my mom on Facebook, and get more up to date information outside of this newsletter, you can find her here: https://www.facebook.com/theodessadesigns/

Things I found across the net...

Not a lot here this week, but there are some highlights for you!

  • One of my friends from high school, Oliver (they/them) is raising funds to take part in the Gotham EDU Film and Media Career Development Program. Please donate and/or share if you’re able! Click here to do so. And if you’d like to learn more about my friend, please visit olivergraceschaffer.com!
  • Google I/O wasn't super interesting this year, mostly just AI stuff (boo!), but a cool little thing was all the updates they're making to Android. Lot of technical talk, but if you're into Android, worth the read for Beta 2 (here's a link for Beta 1, as well). I've been running Android 15 since Beta 1's incremental fix patch a month ago, and have actually had better performance on Pixel 6 vs. Android 14, but it's beta software, so your mileage may vary.
  • Here's the less technical roundup on new stuff in Android 15 "Vanilla Ice Cream" Beta 2 (and Beta 1) from 9to5Google as well!
  • Notable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo expects that a new Rose Titanium colour will be added to the iPhone 16 Pro line-up this fall. This is really the only interesting news here. It'll be replacing the blue titanium colourway, apparently.
  • The iPhone 16 Plus will be the final Plus variant of the iPhone to release, as Apple is apparently looking to axe the variant once more with the iPhone 17 line next fall. Prior to the iPhone 14 Plus, the final Plus variant of the iPhone to release was the iPhone 8 Plus in 2017.

What I'm listening to...

I happen to listen to a lot of music. Here’s what I’m currently listening to—usually on repeat. Here’s what I’ve got for you, for the week of 19 May, 2024

Thanks to Odesli for making these links platform agnostic! For library stats, you can find me on last.fm.

That's it! Hope to see you at Bennington Mayfest next week! Remember, 25th May from from 10am-5pm in downtown Bennington, VT!

See you again soon,
Slade

The Bulletinfor 13th July, 2024 Hey there, Apologies for releasing this email a little later than usual, it was a pretty long weekend and I didn't have access to my computer for a bit. I had a great little trip and I've got some exciting news to share from that which you'll get to hear about very soon. I promise. Anywho, besides being blonde again, there's not much new going on in my life this week. I played a lot of Stardew Valley and Hi-Fi Rush, both of which are fantastic games. So instead...

The Bulletinfor 6th July, 2024 Hey you, Sorry this is a couple hours late, the platform I use to send these emails was down for a bit. Everything seems to be fine now, though, so we're back in business! Well, this past week has been filled with unexpected changes. I'm seeing a guy now for the first time in many years, and I've been really happy about where things are. I've endured a lot these past few months, and it feels like things have finally started looking up. Thank God. I had dinner...

The Bulletinfor 29th June, 2024 Hey hey hey, This week, I returned to carrying two phones: one Android phone, one iPhone (paired to an Apple Watch). Best of both worlds, if you will! This will allow me to test everything without needing to keep moving SIM cards back and forth, which has proven to be an annoying first world problem these past few years. Regardless, I'll probably do a thing on my setup at some point, but for now screenshots are at the end of this email! Either way, as I write...
